The UK production, The King’s Speech, about King George VI’s struggle to overcome his stammer, has won four Academy Awards (Oscars) – Best Picture, Best Actor (Colin Firth), Best Director (Tom Hooper) and Best Original Screenplay.

An early front-runner in the Oscar race, The Social Network, scooped three Oscars (Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score and Film Editing).

Best Picture nominee Inception won four Oscars – Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects and Cinematography.

Natalie Portman (Black Swan) won Best Actress, Christian Bale (The Fighter) won Best Supporting Actress and Melissa Leo (The Fighter) was judged Best Supporting Actress.
