Cinema advertising broker Cinemark reports that 2010 was the biggest year for South African cinema in terms of attendance since 2005. There were over 27.4 million visitors to cinemas across the country last year.
Factors contributing to the growth are attributed by Cinemark, which has been monitoring the attendance, as blockbuster titles “3D-thusiasm’, the 2010 Fifa World Cup and a recovering recession.
Cinemark believes the forecast for 2011 is also optimistic. 3D mania is expected to continue to grow with just about every new blockbuster offering a heightened cinema experience. Upcoming titles include the hilarious animated Rango, with Johnny Depp, the much anticipated Pirates of the Caribbean 4; as well as Just go with it and Cars 2.
“Our pledge is to harness this substantial growth into a bigger, better and always relevant platform for advertisers,’ says Jenni Critchfield, Cinemark’s Executive Sales.
