Uhuru Production’s The Mating Game has garnered critical recognition from this year’s South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas). The 13-part series, which takes a humorous look at the modern family from a feminist perspective, scooped six nominations in the television drama category, including one for Best Drama series.
The nominations include Best Cinematography, for Jonathan Kovel’s extraordinary mastery of the HD format, Best Art Direction, for Flo Ballack’s dynamic sets, Best Actress in a TV Drama for lead actress Maggie Benedict and Best Writer for series writer and producer, Anita Khanna.
Last year The Mating Game received the highest internal ratings ever recorded within the SABC.
“The recognition means a lot to this team that poured their heart and soul into this production, hopefully this acclaim will result in a recommission,” says Uhuru’s CEO Rehad Desai.
