Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, with a high-wattage international cast featuring Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams and Marion Cotillard, will open the 64th Cannes Film Festival on 11 May. The pic was shot last year in Paris.
According to Cannes festival watchers, it is unlikely that the film will play in competition as Allen has always shied away from submitting his films in festival competitions.
Midnight in Paris should go down well with French audiences as it has been described by festival director Thierry Fremaux as “a wonderful love letter to Paris”. It is said to look at people’s relationship with history, art, pleasure and life.
The feature is produced by Spain’s Mediapro and Gravier Prods in New York and distributed by Mars Films in France. It also stars Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Gad Elmaleh and Lea Seydoux.
