Two South African films are still attracting audiences after several weeks of release on the local cinema circuit. The John Cleese starrer, Spud (47 prints), had made R16.4m as at 23 January, while the Afrikaans musical, Liefling (17 prints) had made R13.2m.
Spud has been on release for eight weeks and Liefling for 10 weeks.
The biggest earner over the weekend was the Johnny Depp / Angelina Jolie Hollywood blockbuster, The Tourist (75 prints), making R1.3m. It has been on release for three weeks and its cumulative box office is R8.7m.
