At the National Film and Video Foundation Briefing with filmmakers which took place on Thursday 18 November, outgoing CEO Eddie Mbalo announced that there was much to look forward to, including increased funding for film from the National Treasury. He said the film industry also had the important support of the new Minister of Arts and Culture, Paul Mashatile.

Mbalo revealed that the NFVF was working closely with the SABC to find ways for the broadcaster to support local feature films. He also paid tribute to the NFVF team which he said had created a solid foundation for industry growth.

Clarence Hamilton, NFVF head of production and development explained that with increased funding they hope  to extend the Foundation’s funding support from six to 12 films next year. He further stated that training, development and production will be positively affected by the increase in funding from government. He warned however that it is critical for the sustainability of the industry to transform from a fee based approach to that of a profit based industry.
