The new runaway train type action movie, Unstoppable, starring Oscar winner Denzel Washington and Star Trek’s Chris Pine, opened in top spot at the South African box office over the weekend of 12 to 14 November. Released with 60 prints, the film made R1.1m.
Last week’s number one, the romcom, Life As We Know It (68 prints), slipped to second spot but is performing very well. In three weeks it has made R4.2m.
In third spot is the animated blockbuster Despicable Me (including 3D) which had made R13.5m by 14 November. Some 63 prints were on release at the time.
The Social Network (40 prints) and Piranha 3D (41 prints) made up the rest of the top five. The former is full of Oscar buzz has made R1.3m to date.
