The first ever Transforming Stories International Christian Film Festival runs from 5 to 11 November and showcases productions from some of South Africa’s top Christian filmmakers. All in all 108 films were submitted from 18 countries around the world.
Films in the Feature Film, Documentary and Short Film genres will be shown. During the festival the public can view the 12 Semi-finalists in each category.
The official award ceremony was held on the 28 October 2010 at Ster-Kinekor Cinema Nauveau Rosebank. This year the winning film in the Feature Film category was none other than locally produced FAITH LIKE POTATOES and proved once again that South Africa has what it takes to compete with film productions from around the world. Frans Cronje, producer of the film said, “We continue to be amazed by the way that God is using Faith Like Potatoes around the world. Four years after releasing the movie, we still receive scores of emails every week from people that testify of how Faith Like Potatoes changed their lives.’
LOST BOY: The next chapter received the awards as the Winning Documentary Film. This documentary is based on Greg Laurie’s search for the meaning of life; born out of wedlock to an alcoholic mother his life was suddenly changed when he encountered a group of young Christians on his high school campus in Newport Beach, California. Mr Laurie gave his acceptance speech via a video recording saying; “This film has been a labor of love and we hope that it will bring encouragement to many people.’
LOST AT SEA received the award as the Winning Short Film and is part of an eight-part film series; Full Flame. Mr Andre Britz accepted the award on behalf of Christ for all Nations Ministries (Cfan), saying “Lost at Sea’ is the first of this dramatic eight-part series, produced for the singular purpose of triggering an avalanche of soul-winning throughout the world. We would like to thank Humble Pie Entertainment for this prestigious award, as well as to commend them for the phenomenal work they are doing with regards to Christian media. In the widely unexplored field of using the medium of film to effectively preach salvation to a lost and dying world, they are nothing short of pioneers. It is our honour to stand side-by-side with them,plundering hell and populating heaven for Calvary’s sake!’
