On 4 September at 9pm, the Channel O Music Video Awards, which will be held at Johannesburg’s Sandton Convention Centre, will go live for the very first time on DStv channel 320.
Like Channel O itself, the Music Video Awards focus entirely on African music, artists, entertainers and stars.
Co-hosts of the awards are actor-presenter Lungile Radu and actor-comedian Thomas Gumede, while TKZee member and all-round multi-talent, Zwai Bala is assisting the production team with musical direction on several performances.
Liquideep, Black Coffee with special featured artist Zakes Bantwini, DJ Tira, Teargas, Kwela Tebza, Thembi Seete, Dama Do Bling, Wyre, Buffalo Souljah, Sasha, D-Black and Kwaku-T are just some of the musical acts that will feature on the night.
Guest presenters include Channel O VJ, Kabelo "KB" Ngakane along with Top Mais presenter Weza, 100% Naija’s Tana, O-Access’ Dineo Moeketsi and SK of Mzanzi Ridez. IK of Big Brother Africa-fame will also be on hand to give out statuettes to the winners.
Channel O has secured two exclusive music video debuts straight after the live event broadcast ends. These come from two of Africa’s biggest breakout hip-hop stars – Khuli Chana and Kwesta. Hip-hop and Motswako kingpin Khuli Chana will be debuting the hot new video for “Konka’. The song is the latest single to be pulled off his acclaimed album The MotswakOriginator which sees Khuli working with some of the hottest producers in the game including TowdeeMac, IV League, Don Juan and PH. Kwesta’s “Flava’ is the second Channel O exclusive music video debuting straight after the awards broadcast on Thursday 4 November.
On Sunday 7 November at 6pm CAT viewers can see the 2010 Channel O Music Video Awards Red Carpet special. This will be followed by a re-broadcast of the 2010 Channel O Music Video Awards ceremony at 6.30pm.
