Joining the two Afrikaans-language South African films (ie. Bakgat 2 and Susanna van Biljon) on the local cinema circuit over the weekend of 1 to 3 October was Revel Fox’s Cape Town drama, Long Street. Distributed by Indigenous Films, Long Street made R20,046 in its opening weekend.
Bakgat 2 is proving to be a smash-hit and has made R4.6m to date. It has been on release for four weeks and was number five on Ster-Kinekor’s Top 8 for the weekend and number eight in the Combined Top 10.
After two weeks of release, Susanna van Biljon has made R754,866. It made the number four spot in Nu Metro’s Top 8 for the weekend.
The biggest earner over the weekend was the new release, the animated comedy Despicable Me, which took R3.7m. (Figures supplied by SAFACT)
