The South African feature film, White Lion, triumphed at the recent 33rd International Children’s Festival in Frankfurt, Germany by scooping the prestigious Audience Award.
Shot over many years at The Lion Park just outside Johannesburg, the SAFTA- winning White Lion was executive produced by Rodney and Ilana Fuhr, produced by Kevin Richardson and directed by Michael Swan. The many non-human stars of the film are drawn from The Lion Park’s pool of tawny and white lions.
The film’s blurb reads: “According to the legend of the Shangaan, white lions are the messengers of the gods, but it has been years since one has been seen in their remote African valley. When a white lion is miraculously born into that valley, a young Shangaan named Gisani, finds himself destined to protect this rare and magnificent creature at all costs.”
White Lion’s human stars include Thabo Malema, AJ Van Der Merwe, Brendan Grealy and Jamie Bartlett.
