During the weekend of 24 to 26 September, two Afrikaans-language films were in the Combined Top 10 at the South African box office. Bakgat 2 (38 prints), in its third week of release, was in seventh spot. It has made an impressive R3.5m to date.
New release Susanna van Biljon (20 prints), from Franz Marx films and starring a host of popular Afrikaans performers, was in 10th spot, having made R296,317.
The top earner over the weekend was the Hollywood blockbuster, Karate Kid (88 prints), starring Will Smith’s son Jaden and action star Jackie Chan. It made R2.2m over the weekend and has clocked up a total of R6.2m in its two weeks of release.
