The hi-tech, interactive “Brazil Sensational Experience’ will take place from 15 June to 11 July 2010 at the Sandton Convention Centre and is a must for the World Cup diaries of soccer fans. Brazil is the country that will host the 2014 FIFA World CupTM.
Films will be screened at the Sandton Convention Centre between 16h00 and 18h00 on Wednesday 30 June, Thursday 1 July, Sunday 4 July, and Monday 5 July. The public is welcome, and entrance is free. Movies are in Portuguese with English subtitles.

Wednesday, 30 June. Linha de Passe. (2008, 113 min). This film takes you into the lives of Dario, Denis, Dinho and Reginaldo, four boys living in Cidade Lider on the outskirts of Sao Paulo. While their pregnant single mother works as a cleaner, the boys have to fight for their dreams. One of them, Dario, is an especially talented soccer player and dreams of a better life by following his soccer dreams.
Directed by Walter Salles and Daniela Thomas, produced by Video Filmes and starring Sandra Corveloni as Cleuza, the boys’ mother, Vinicius de Oliveira as Dario, Joao Baldasserini as Denis, Jose Geraldo Rodrigues as Dinho and Kaique Jesus dos Santos as Reginaldo. The film received much acclaim at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, where Corveloni won the Best Actress Award for her role as Cleuza and the film was nominated for a Palme d’Or.
Thursday, 1 July. Boleiros 1 (Soccer Players 1. 1998, 93 min). The story takes place in a bar in Sao Paulo, where a group of old soccer pros gather to reminisce about their glory days. Directed by Ugo Giorgetti and starring Adriano Stuart, Flavio Migliaccio, Otavio Augusto, Cassio Gabus Mendes, Rogerio Cardoso, Joao Acaiabe, Oswaldo Campozana, Paulo Coronato, Aldo Bueno, Cesar Negro, Elias Andreato, Walter Breda and Wandi Doratiotto.
Sunday, 4 July. Garrincha, Estrela Solitaria (Garrincha, the Lonely Star. 2003, 110 min). This movie is a biography, based on the book by Ruy Castro, of the legendary Brazilian soccer star Manuel dos Santos known as Garrincha, meaning “little bird’ or wren. The film takes you through the life of the “twisted legs devil’, on and off the field, contrasting the world soccer myth with the reality of this humble hinterland man. Garrincha, who played in three FIFA World Cup Finals, two of which Brazil won (1958, 1962), is considered by many to be one of the best Brazilian soccer player. Directed by Milton Alencar, produced by Fam Filmes and starring Andre Gonçalves, Tais Araujo, Henrique Pires and Alexandre Schumacher.
Monday 5 July. Cartao Vemelho (Red Card. 1994, 14 min). Directed by Lais Bodansky, produced by Buriti Filmes and starring Camila Kolber and Francisco Rojo, this short film is about Fernanda, a 12-year old girl who likes to play soccer with boys. One day she arrives late at the game and finds nobody there. The boys are at their hiding place. Fernanda knows where it is, but she could never dream of what they are plotting.
Monday, 5 July. O dia em que o Brasil esteve aqui (The Day Brazil Was Here. 2006, 72 min). Can a soccer game change the fate of a nation? The Day Brazil Was Here is a documentary of the 2004 visit by the Brazilian National soccer team to Port-au-Prince, capital of Haiti. When Brazil responded to the UN’s call to lead a peacekeeping force to the conflict-ridden Haiti, the country sent more than just its troops. It also sent its national soccer team to play against Haiti’s national team, in an effort to stem the conflict. The film is directed by Caito Ortiz and Joao Dornelas and produced by Prodigo Filmes.
