It’s great to see South African films making their mark at the local box office. The new comedy release, I Now Pronounce you Black and White, made R443,200 in its first week of release, from 14 to 20 May. This performance put the film in the number two spot on the Nu Metro Top 8 for that week.
Meanwhile, the Afrikaans-language Jakalsdans has crept up to R2.7m after four weeks of release.
During the week in question, the box office was blitzed by new release, Robin Hood, which took in R2.7m. Iron Man 2 is doing better even than that – after three weeks of release it’s at R13.1m.
