The new Afrikaans-language South African film, Jakhalsdans (directed by Darrell James Roodt) has grossed just over R1.6m after only two weeks at the local box office. For the weekend of 30 April to 3 May it made the Number 8 spot of the Combined Ster-Kinekor, UIP and Nu Metro Top 10, grossing R593,815 for the weekend in question.
Top earner for the weekend was no surprise – Iron Man 2. The Robert Downey Jnr blockbuster opened with R4.9m. It was followed by Clash of the Titans (including 3D) which grossed just over R1m.
Next biggest earners were Love Happens (Aaron Ekhart, Jennifer Anniston), Date Night (Tina Fey, Steve Carrell) and When in Rome (Josh Duhamel, Anjelica Huston). The last two titles are romantic comedies, and the first is a romantic drama.
Meanwhile, Alice in Wonderland (including 3D) has made R23.3m to date, and the Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker, R2.3m.
