The Cape Film Commission (CFC) has officially announced the resignation of CEO Laurence Mitchell and the board chairman Gary Edwardes. Mitchell’s resignation was accepted by the CFC board at a meeting held on 24 February. His resignation takes effect from 30 April 2010.
Mitchell says he will pursue business interest within the media, television and advertising sector. He also informed the Board that as a partner and shareholder in Net#work BBDO Cape Town it had become necessary for him “to focus my attention full time into growing this business’.
Edwardes decision to resign was taken in response to a request by his partners at Waterfront Studios to “refocus’ all his energy in the business. His resignation takes effect as from 31 March 2010.
According to Mitchell, a new CEO and board chairman will be appointed in due course but in the interim period measures have been put in place to ensure that the CFC continues to deliver good service to the Cape Town film industry.
In this week’s CFC electronic newsletter, Mitchell voiced his appreciation to the CFC board and the film industry for “the wonderful opportunity to contribute to the growth of the industry.
“Let me also extend a word of thanks to both the City of Cape Town and the Provincial Government of the Western Cape for their tireless commitment to the film industry.
“I am proud to have been able to work with so many fantastic people within the film, television, stills and commercials industry.’
