As at 7 March, the new South African comedy Jozi had made R600,000 at the local box office since its release on 26 February. It was the second highest UIP earner over the past weekend.
The biggest earner over the weekend in question was the new 3D release, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, which made R4.5m in its opening weekend. Talking of 3D, the Oscar-winning Avatar was in sixth spot on the Combined Ster-Kinekor, Nu Metro & UIP Top Ten. After 12 weeks of release the film has made a mind-boggling R54.4m.
It’s Complicated, the new romantic comedy starring Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin, was the second highest earner for the weekend of 5 to 7 March, making R1.4m. It was followed by Book of Eli (a sci-fi adventure starring Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman), Valentine’s Day and Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief.
