Stereoscopic 3D competition

Now calling for entries is Dimension 3 Festival, the international competition dedicated to all types of stereoscopic 3D (S-3D) content. The award ceremony will be on 2 June during the international forum on S-3D and new images Dimension 3, at the Pullman Dock (La Plaine Saint-Denis, France).

Dimension 3 Festival aims to illustrate the variety of new contents, industries, technologies and applications on the market of S-3D.
Says festival manager Nathalie Klimberg: “The arrival of 3D technologies and of stereoscopic filming will encourage the development of content for films, entertainment, industrial applications, training and advertising. In this context, we seized the opportunity to present the diversity of S-3D productions, and to promote new talents. The Festival first launched in 2007 and started out by offering a collection of 3D programmes. Last year, visitors were able to enjoy 12 hours worth of stereoscopic contents. The newly-introduced competition, covering a number of markets, will contribute to develop a cross-industry community spirit and provide a festive atmosphere.’

Dimension 3 Festival’s call for entries is directed to all 3D contents created after January, 2007. Competing programmes must apply for one of the six following categories:

– Short programmes: short films, advertising clips, music videos
– Feature-length programmes
– Live 3D: live show, concert, sports
– Interactive 3D: real-time 3D, serious games, virtual reality, augmented reality
– Video games Entertainment: Online games, CD-ROM, theme park rides
– Independent production: self-produced programs, school programs, thesis projects

The jury, consisting of prominent members of the arts, media and audio-visual communities, will select one winner in each category and will also give out three special prizes:
– Special prize for visual effects
– Special prize for images
– Special prize for artistic direction

On the evening of June 2, winners will be awarded a “Golden Dimmy’ for their productions. The award ceremony will take place as a part of Dimension 3, the international forum on S-3D and new images (from June 1 to 3, Seine-Saint-Denis, France).
Competitors can send in their entries until 5 May 2010.
