Austrian DOP wins ASC award

Black and white cinematography by Oscar-nominated Austrian Christian Berger in The White Ribbon has won the feature film category at the 24th American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Awards, presented on 27 February.

The TV cinematography awards were won by Eagle Egilsson for the Venice Kings episode of the Dark Blue series, and Alar Kivilo who won in the miniseries/pilot category for Taking Chance.

Caleb Deschanel, a three-time ASC nominee who won the 2001 feature film award for The Patriot, was presented the lifetime achievement award, while British DOP Chris Menges accepted the ASC’s International Award.

The ASC Board of Governors Award was presented to Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby, Invictus) in recognition of his contribution to the art of filmmaking.
