District 9 was one of the films nominated on Tuesday 12 January  for the American Cinema Editors’ 60th annual ACE Eddie Awards.  Also nominated were Avatar, Star Trek, The Hurt Locker and Up in the Air.

The Art Directors Guild also nominated three of these films for its awards, namely District 9, Avatar and Star Trek.

Two movies in which Meryl Streep starred, Julie & Julia and It’s Complicated, were nominated in the best comedy or musical category along with (500) Days of Summer, The Hangover and A Serious Man.

For best animated film, the contenders are Coraline, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Up.

The Michael Jackson documentary, This Is It, was named in ACE’s best documentary race alongside The Cove and Food, Inc.

ACE’s nominations are recognised as a pointer for the forthcoming Oscar best picture winner as otherwise than in 1981 when Ordinary People won, all other best pictures related back to ACE.

Winners will be announced at ACE’s awards ceremony on 14 February at the Beverly Hilton.

AVID will receive ACE’s first-ever Technical Excellence Award at the ceremony.
