In a prime example of how M-Net’s youth-oriented Vuzu channel uses its cross-platform media format, the channel is running a competition on its social networking website around the eagerly awaited film, Michael Jackson’s This Is It. The film is a behind the scenes look at how MJ developed, created and rehearsed for his sold out concerts that would have taken place in London’s O2 Arena.
Vuzu is offering five double tickets and hampers for an exclusive screening of the film at Cresta Mall in Johannesburg on Friday, 30 October. To enter for the completion, interested parties need to register on www.vuzu.tv to create a Vuzu profile. They then need to upload a video of their best Michael Jackson moves and/or photos of themselves dressed up in Michael Jackson gear. Lastly they have to e-mail competitions @vuzu.tv with their username and profile link.
Chronicling the months from April through June, 2009, This Is It is produced with the full support of the Estate of Michael Jackson and drawn from more than one hundred hours of behind-the-scenes footage, featuring Jackson rehearsing a number of songs for the show. In raw and candid detail, Michael Jackson’s This Is It captures the singer, dancer, filmmaker, architect, creative genius and great artist at work as he creates and perfects his final show.
Kenny Ortega, who was both Michael Jackson’s creative partner and the director of the stage show is also directing the film, which is being produced by Randy Phillips, Kenny Ortega and Paul Gongaware. Executive producers are John Branca and John McClain.
The film will be distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures Releasing. Tickets for the limited two-week engagement of the film go on sale on 27 September 2009 and the film premiers worldwide on 28 October 2009.
The global premiere red carpet event will be broadcast live on VUZU channel 123 on 28 October from 01:45 to 02:45.
