South African first-time filmmakers, Adrian Bailey and Robyn Keene-Young received the Marion Zunz Best Newcomer Award, as well as the Best Sound Award for their film, Swamp Troop at the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival held in Wyoming earlier this month.
The one-hour TV documentary about a troop of baboons in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, was filmed entirely on foot by this husband and wife team. While “Swamp Troop’ is a co-production between the National Geographic Channels and the filmmakers’ company, Road Media, a tight budget meant that the couple handled all of the pre-production, field production, and a large part of the post-production themselves. Johannesburg-based G-Vision was responsible for colour grading and online editing, while Mark Phillips of the Audio Matrix worked as sound editor and mixer. Composer Alan Lazar (former band member of Mango Groove) scored the film.
Other nominations for the Best Sound Award were BBC /Disneynature’s, “Earth’ and “Wild Ocean,’ by Giant Screen Films.
