The president of the regulatory agency responsible for Malawi’s broadcast sector (MACRA), Thengo Maloya, said at a workshop on digital broadcasting on 9 July that the transition from analogue to digital would facilitate communication in the country and provide high quality television images and sound.
“That is important for developing countries like Malawi in the sense that they will use modern technology such as in the United States of America” he said during the workshop in the district of Mangochi.
But while there was consensus that digital was the route to go, Malawi has yet to commit to meeting the ITU switchover to digital broadcasting date of 2015.
