Fresh from its triumph at the Golden Globes, Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, which scooped four Globes including best picture and best director, has received 11 nominations for the Orange British Academy Awards. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button has received the same number of nominations, including a best actor nod for Brad Pitt.
Both Pitt and double Golden Globe winner Kate Winslet have two nominations each, Pitt’s other nomination being for best supporting actor in Burn After Reading, while Winslet is nominated for both The Reader and Revolutionary Road in the best actress category.
The Dark Knight has nine nominations, including one for the late Heath Ledger who was awarded a Golden Globe posthumously. Clint Eastwood’s Changeling has scored eight nominations, including one for Angelina Jolie as best actress.
Frost/Nixon has six nominations, The Reader has five and Milk, In Bruges and Revolutionary Road have four each.
The British Academy Film Awards take place on 8 February at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London.
