Predictions are that this year’s edition of the Holy Grail of indie film festivals, Sundance, which takes place in Park City, Utah US from 15 to 25 January, is likely to have less buzz, glitz and of course, sales.
It’s not just the global recession that is to blame, but the 2008 closing down of Warner’s indie production arm Picturehouse, as well as other smaller indie operations, not to mention Paramount Vantage reducing its slate.
This 25th anniversary edition of Sundance has special “storytelling”-themed events and Web content. One event will see director Steven Soderbergh (Traffic, Che, Ocean’s 11 franchise) sitting on a panel facing the highly pertinent question “What next?” (Source: Hollywood Reporter)
