The attempts of the leadership of the Screen Actors Guild of America (SAG) to authorise a strike against Hollywood studio and network executives as represented under the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers (AMPTP) have resulted in what Variety has termed “a civil war” within the Guild.
A moderate faction within SAG has expressed dissatisfaction with the way SAG leaders have handled the stalemated contract negotiations with the AMPTP, which first commenced in May last year. Latest reports indicate that national executive director Doug Allen may well be ousted from his position as SAG’s lead negotiator.
Industry insiders believe that this move could lead to the cancellation of SAG’s strike authorisation vote and could lead to new contract negotiations between the AMPTP and SAG.
