The new animated blockbuster, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, opened in top spot on the South African box office on the weekend of 5 to 7 December. It made R3,315,291.

Madagascar  pushed the new South African comedy, Mr Bones, to second spot over the same weekend. However, Mr Bones, which made a record-breaking R6m in the previous weekend, didn’t trail Madagascar by much, making R3,310,032.

In third spot was Quantum of Solace, still doing well after three weeks of release. It made R1.4m over the weekend in question, followed by new release The Women and High School Musical, which has been on the cinema circuit for six weeks. (Figures supplied by SAFACT).
