After making a whopping R6m in its opening weekend at the local box office, the new South African film Mr Bones 2 upped its earnings to R9m by the end of the first week. This is an all time South African record.
Audiences have not taken any notice of the poor reviews the film has generated and are turning up in droves to see the film, which was written by and stars South Africa’s king of comedy, Leon Schuster.
Said a delighted Schuster: “It is extremely gratifying for me to have the continued support of the public. I am also humbled for me to have this kind of recognition as the audience is foremost in my mind when I make movies.’
Producer, Anant Singh commented, “We are thrilled that the audience has embraced Mr Bones 2 to such unprecedented levels. As filmmakers we are delighted with the unequivocal stamp of approval given to the film. Mr Bones 2 certainly provides the best comic relief and gets people into the spirit of the holidays.’
Mr Bones 2 is a Videovision Entertainment release through United International Pictures (South Africa).
