The world’s most famous teenage couple, Troy (Zac Effron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) have launched an impressive attack on the South Africa box office. Their film High School Musical 3 opened in top spot and took R5.8m in its first week (31 October to 6 November).
After 10 weeks, Mamma Mia has finally relinquished its hold on the top spot of the box office. It has now dropped to sixth spot, having taken a mind-boggling R23.8m to date.
In second spot for the week in question was Nights in Rodanthe (it took R1.2m in its opening week), which sees Richard Gere and Diane Lane re-uniting in a romantic drama. The action film Max Payne was in third spot, having earned R2.4m to date. Death Race and Eagle Eye made up the top five.
Although not in the Combined Top 10 for the week in questions, Jerusalema was still number four in the UIP Top 8, and is currently at R3.9m. (Figures supplied by SAFACT.)
