Despite all the haggling between the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the Hollywood studios as represented by the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers over renewing the actors’ contract which expired on 30 June, the studios are reportedly preparing for production on a slate of big movies.
In the last week Hollywood has had the jitters as SAG leaders urged its members to authorise a strike. Industry insiders believe that the majority of SAG membership won’t agree to a strike (75% of members have to vote “yes’). SAG’s national board meets on 18 October.
An AMPTP spokesman was quoted in Variety as saying; “SAG negotiators have failed utterly in their attempts to explain why, during this unprecedented financial crisis, they deserve a better deal than the ones negotiated by the other guilds earlier this year during dramatically better economic times.’
