Will Hollywood ever stop with the sequels? Apparently not, as long as there are respectable box office returns, as with Mummy 3, which took R2.2m in its first week at the South African box office.
Talking of sequels, as at 14 August, the latest Batman movie The Dark Knight, which has blitzed the box office worldwide, had clocked up R9.4m in just three weeks in South Africa.
Adam Sandler’s action comedy You Don’t Mess with the Zohan is also performing well, with R2.5 over two weeks. Meanwhile, Will Smith’s superhero spoof, Hancock, has taken a huge R14.8m in its six weeks of release.
However, the Top 10 title on circuit with highest life to date box office is Kung Fu Panda with R16m, after seven weeks at the cinemas. (Figures supplied by SAFACT)
