After just two weeks of release, the locally produced Afrikaans-language teen comedy Bakgat! is performing well at the South African box office, having amassed R1.2m as at 24 April. This puts it in sixth place for that week.

Currently at the top of the box office is the new female bank robber caper, Mad Money, starring Queen Latifah, Diane Keaton and Mrs Tom Cruise (otherwise known as Katie Holmes).

In second place is another new release, Street Kings, a cop drama starring Keanu Reeves and Oscar winner Forest Whitaker. It made R660,915 in its first week. Dwayne Johnson’s family comedy Game Plan is in third place, having made a really impressive R8.9m in five weeks. It is followed by the dance drama Step Up 2, which has made an even more impressive R10.3m in six weeks.

The animated Dr Seuss’ Horton Hears A Who has made R6.6m in four weeks and is currently in fifth place.

The historical chick flick, The Other Boleyn Girl (starring Eric Bana, Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson) made R4473,671 in its opening week.

Rambo, on release for two weeks, has clocked up just under R2m. This obviously proves that some people still want to see an aged Sylvester Stallone back in the combat gear he donned in 1982 for the first Rambo movie. This new release is the fourth Rambo film.
