Daily Variety reports that three Hollywood studios – Warner Bros., Paramount and DreamWorks – are testing a new strategy to fight piracy in China. The studios are selling their DVDs in China for much the same price that pirated DVDs go for, very quickly after the US releases.

The first DVD to be sold in China this way is Transformers, which is being sold for $2.95. Next will be Shrek the Third. It is likely that other studios may follow suit in the short term.
