A new partnership aimed at bringing together key stakeholders with the common aim of building Gauteng’s reputation as a film-friendly region was announced at the Gauteng Film Indaba held on 6 November in Johannesburg.
According to Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) Chief Executive Terry Tselane, who made the announcement, the Gauteng Film Partnership will bring together the resources and energy of key organisations, groups, communities and individuals in order to meet the development needs of the wider Gauteng audiovisual industry and to ensure that Gauteng remains a prime location for all types of film productions.
Said Tselane: “For us to significantly grow our competitive position as a film location we must work as one. We need to ensure that film becomes everyone’s business in Gauteng and that can only happen if we significantly increase the profile of the sector within our community.
“The Gauteng province accounts for the bulk of TV production in South Africa and enjoys a large slice of the commercial production sector with an estimated 44% of all commercials filmed in South Africa, shot in Gauteng. Most recently Gauteng also played host to a number of international productions including Phillip Noyces’ much acclaimed Catch a Fire.’
