The remake of John Waters’ cult 1950s style musical “Hairspray’ has mad an instant impact on the South African box office, reaching second spot in its opening week with R1.8m. “The Bourne Ultimatum’ retains its top spot having amassed R5.9m to date.
In third place is the 2D animated “The Simpsons Movie’ (R7m to date), followed by the effects movie “Transformers’ (R9.6m to date) and the romantic comedy “License to Wed’ (R3.8m to date).
After 17 weeks in release, people are still coming to see the Swedish arthouse release “As it is in Heaven’. Its total box office is R3.4m and it is in 10th spot this week. (Figures supplied by SAFACT)
