Now for the first time in South Africa executives can obtain a certificate in Entertainment Law from the University of Johannesburg. Competitive advantage in the corporate environment is becoming more critical daily, the University maintains. The right toolkits need to be invested in to stay on top. An advertising executive who understands copyright and broadcasting issues has a tremendous advantage over an executive who has no knowledge.
The certificate course offered by the University of Johannesburg will be available in the evenings, as blocked week classes and online as well in the near future. The online course will be available to South Africans as well as people from abroad.
Entertainment Law encompasses all fields that may be applicable to the processes and persons involved in the creation of entertainment content. It covers the following areas:
• “Mechanical’ and electronic exhibition of performances (i.e. films, television programmes, advertisements for TV, Radio, Internet, Cell phone content, Multimedia)
• Sport with spectator / entertainment value
• Art and fashion exhibitions (i.e. paintings, sculptures, “live performance
art)
• Live performances in its various forms (i.e. plays, music etc)
Legal practitioners will enhance their service offerings to clients by attending this course, but by no means is this course for qualified legal practitioners only.
It is a course to empower executives by understanding their and their client’s rights.
For many years people have suffered financial abuse or missed revenue opportunities
because they are not aware of what their rights are.
The course dates are: Every Wednesday evening (18:30-21:30) from 3 October to 21 November 2007 at the UJ Auckland Park Campus.
