2D Cartoon heroes Bart, Homer, Lisa, Maggie and Marge Simpson make their big screen debut in “The Simpsons Movie’, which has gone straight to the top of the South African box office in its opening week (27 July – 2 August). The film has made R2.8m in that period.
In second spot is the big visual effects movie “Transformers’, released the previous week, which has made R6m to date.
“Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix’ continues its excellent run, entering its fourth week with takings of R11.4m. Meanwhile, Bruce Willis’ adventures in “Die Hard 4.0′ have amassed R8.1m in four weeks.
But outdoing all these big earners is “Shrek the Third’ at a huge R21.3m in just five weeks.
The moving Swedish arthouse release “As it is in Heaven’ is still maintaining its spot in the upper end of the top 10 after 14 weeks. Although it has only made R2.7m in total, its weekly average (around the R200 000 mark) is still enough to keep this spot. (Figures supplied by SAFACT)
