Public broadcaster SABC and its communication partners managed no less than 15 nominations in the upcoming Loerie Awards, South Africa’s top accolade for the brand communication sector, to take place on 28 and 29 July in Margate, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
SABC Corporate Marketing and Agency Young & Rubicam South Africa has two nominations, both in the Print Advertising-Newspaper category. Says Corporate Marketing Manager, Peter Kwele: “This campaign was done to highlight issues around women and child abuse in what we termed “16 Days of Activism Against Women and Child Abuse’. Our aim was to challenge and sensitise our citizens specifically men, around this critical issue. We had hoped to change mindsets with our print campaign.’
SABC2 and SABC Television Sales lead the pack with three finalists each. SABC2 and Agency FCB Johannesburg have been nominated in the outdoor/ambient and radio commercial categories.
SABC Television Sales and partners Tequila will be in search of Loeries in the mixed media and online advertising categories.
SABC Radio stations 5fm and Good Hope Fm as well as SABC3 each have two nominations. Metro FM has been nominated in the outdoor/ambient category.
Helen Graham, Station Manager 5fm, comments: “Net#work is widely recognised as one of South Africa’s best advertising/creative agencies and its reputation for fresh/cutting-edge ideas is crucial for a dynamic youthful brand such as 5fm. We always need to be ahead of trends and even sometimes predict the mindsets, lifestyle choices and creative outlets of our listeners. Apart from an understanding of radio as a broadcasting medium, it is also imperative for Net#work to understand our listeners as well as the personalities driving our on-air content. The five year partnership has delivered a number of award-wining campaigns, but more importantly, consistently delivers on the marketing objectives of 5fm.’
The SABC is the Broadcast Sponsor of the 29th Loerie Awards, and also the annual Loeries traveling exhibition. “As the public broadcaster and the voice of the nation, the SABC has over the years supported events of this magnitude as a means to celebrate and showcase South African talent and creative excellence,’ says SABC Group Marketing Director Jerry Mpufane.
The SABC will have a major presence at the Loerie Awards when various Radio stations broadcast from Margate during the weekend. The SABC street party (with the sounds of the “Gang of Instrumentals’ in the background) on Margate Beachfront on Sunday night promises to bring well-known SABC chicks and birds to chirp about this year’s rare silver and golden birds.
