China’s “Tuya’s Marriage’, a film about a woman’s struggle to support her son and sick husband on the Mongolian steppes, has won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival (Berlinale).
The Silver Bear was awarded to the Argentinean film, “The Other’, about a man going through a mid-life crisis and directed by Ariel Rotter. Julio Chavez won the Best Actor award for the same film. Best Actress was Nina Hoss in the German film “Yella,’while the ensemble cast of the Robert De Niro-directed CIA drama, “The Good Shepherd’, won the Outstanding Artistic Contribution award.
Joseph Cedar won the Best Director award for “Beaufort’, about Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon in 2000, after 18 years of occupation. Best Film Music went to “Hallam Foe’, a British film directed by David Mackenzie.
The Indian film “Vanaia’ (about the daughter of a fisherman in the south of the country) was judged the Best First Feature.
“I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK’, a comedy by South Korean director Park Chan-wook, won the Alfred Bauer Prize which is awarded to a work that “takes the art of film in a new direction’.
