The popular SABC Education Careers Fair kicks off at the Boksburg Civic Centre from 09h00 to 15h00 from 21 to 23 February this year, presenting an introduction of career choices to youths in grades 11 and 12.

Marketing manager at SABC Education Danie Swart says: “The youth need further education and training to ensure they become tomorrow’s leaders. Government, private and higher institutions need to pave the initial path towards a successful beginning to any career. For this reason Orbes Media and SABC Education formed a partnership to create a platform for learners and educators to source information on various career opportunities.’

The event introduces youth to careers and educational awareness programmes. A first this year is a “self help’ career choices programme, where learners are able to identify their life passions and then view a list of applicable job titles as a first step before approaching professional career guidance counselors.

The SABC Education Careers Fair provides workshops for educators to learn more about the latest curriculum and teaching techniques. A collection of SABC Education career development footage is shown in cinema style. The various exhibitions ensure that learners are able to access information from youth organisations, universities, colleges, government departments, skills development centres and learnerships or bursaries from corporate companies and financial institutions.

“The 2007 series of exhibitions and cinemas will be hosted in 10 regions across South Africa, meaning that learners and educators in every South African province can benefit. The combination of exhibition and cinema allows learners to create a complete career map’ says Jennifer Presley of Orbes Media, event manager for the SABC Education Careers Fair.
