The Africa Channel appoints EVP

Shirley Neal , a veteran US TV producer and production and marketing executive with over 20 years experience in the broadcast, cable, and live event arenas has been promoted to the newly created position of executive VP of programming and production for The Africa Channel.

Neal has been VP of production and development of The Africa Channel since its launch in September 2005.

The Africa Channel is a commercially supported general entertainment network which is backed and supported by such notables as Ambassador Andrew Young, Weller/Grossman Productions and National Basketball Association (NBA) stars Dikembe Mutombo and Theo Ratliff.

The Africa Channel which is US-based provides a daily window into modern African life as well as offering African entertainment, culture, information, music, lifestyle, travel, news and business. CEO is James Makawa who spent a few years in South Africa as part of the broadcast initiative ABN which later closed down.

Neal, in her new role, will report to Bob Reid, the channel’s EVP and network general manager. She will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the network, management of the on-air schedule, and programme acquisitions and licensing.
