In a surprising result, the offbeat comedy “Little Miss Sunshine’ beat Golden Globe winner “Babel’ and the other hot Oscar contenders, “Dreamgirls’, “The Departed’ and “The Queen’ to win the top honour at the 18th Annual Producers Guild of America (PGA) Awards held at Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles on 20 January.
Other winners in the major categories were “Cars’ for Best Animated Film, “Grey’s Anatomy’ for Best TV Drama and “The Office’ for Best Episodic TV Comedy. “Elizabeth I’ was juded the Best Longform TV Drama, while “Real Time with Bill Maher’ won for Best Variety TV Programme. The long-running news magazine “60 Minutes” won a guild award for nonfiction television programme.
