Promoting Reel African Images (PRAI) is seeking the “The Best of the Best” films and videos from the African Diaspora for Fespaco, the Pan African Film/Video Festival held biennially in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso The honorary chairman of 2007 Fespaco/ PRAI is Harry Belafonte. In accepting this position, he carries the baton previously held by Dr. Maya Angelou and filmmaker William Greaves.
PRAI will premiere its findings of “The Best of the Best’ cinematic productions from the African Diaspora at Fespaco. PRAI has issued a call for submissions in the competitive screening for the Diaspora Prize, AKA the Paul Robeson Award.
PRAI embraces the fact that Paul Robeson is one of the most visible, influential and admired artists, in history. His accomplishments as an actor, linguist, cultural scholar, international activist, writer and sports legend brought him worldwide acclaim. PRAI honours his contributions with the Paul Robeson Award initiative.
PRAI SUBMISSION CRITERIA
There are three (3) film / video categories for submissions:
1. FESPACO DIASPORA PAUL ROBESON AWARD – Feature Length
2. PRAI’S SPECIAL PRIZE – Doc/Special Interest (long & short)
3. YOUTH WATCH AWARD – Short Narrative Film or Documentary (by filmmaker 25 years old or younger)
DEADLINE FOR ALL CATEGORIES – 30 December 2006If you are aware of a recent production that has won an award, at a film or video festival, anywhere in the world and the writer or director on the project is of African descent and the film/video meets the criteria established by FESPACO, please contact PRAI.
