    Audiovisual Industry LOBBYIST

    Job Description
    1) Research and information-gathering
    – Gather information to formulate strategies that help achieve policy outcomes
    – Interview legislators, officials and audio-visual entities about their positions on relevant policies and legislation
    – Research, analyse and present existing and upcoming legislation and policy changes. Obtain legal opinion where necessary
    – Research, analyse and present relevant political updates and agendas.
    2) Advocacy
    – Establish and maintain relationships with state-owned – and audio-visual entities
    – Attend government, government agencies’ and audio-visual functions, events and meetings, relevant to SASFED
    – Simplify and present SASFED recommendations to legislators and officials, including relevant portfolio committees
    – Advocate official SASFED position statements and recommendations on policy and legislation with legislators and audio-visual entities
    – IP/ Copyright, Residuals
    3) Strategy
    – Provide public policy plans/positions and political advice to SASFED, including the views of the various legislators and audio visual entities
    – Strategise / design campaigns to promote SASFED position statements targeted at both state and grassroot levels.
    – Attend SASFED council meetings
    – Attend SASFED stakeholder meetings
    4) Fundraising
    – Research potential funders
    – Compile and submit funding proposals

    Job Requirements
    1) Strong communication skills (persistent, persuasive, assertive, succinct)
    2) Negotiation skills to broker compromises and deals
    3) Strong understanding of the political system
    4) A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in the film industry in South Africa
    5) A network of strong relationships amongst government officials and audio-visual entities
    6) Strong analytical skills
    7) Knowledge about current news and events pertaining to the audio-visual industry
    8) Cope within a stressful work environment
    9) Preference will be given to persons of colour
    10) Understand and sympathise with government transformation agenda
    11) A Johannesburg based position.
    12) Access to transport at own expense to and from the office located in Linden; Johannesburg daily, including for after-hours meetings when required.
    13) Ability to travel to Parliament or other important locations, at request of the employer and as possible within funding budget.
    14) Manage a part time administrator, legal and research capacities as required and within the funding budget.
    15) Access to own laptop.

    Desired requirements
    1) Bachelor’s degree in humanities or commerce and relevant working experience
    2) Proven record of supporting, protecting, and advancing the mission of an industry association is a plus
    3) A diplomatic approach, a person who brings cohesion instead of antagonize parties/ people in the various platforms where they lobby, but will stand firm on SASFED issues
