Google Play Movies – an all new-look Google Play Store, with a new entertainment
section – has hit South African shores. On the service, viewers can rent or
download their favourite movies from a range of thousands available, including
local productions.
Renting an older movie will cost around R11,99, while some of the latest
blockbusters will go for around R34,99 each. Should one choose to buy, prices will
range between R89,99 and R149,99.
According to Google users will be able to stream movies to watch instantly
through a host of different means such as Android and IOS devices on your phone
or tablet, Android media players, Chromecast or Android TV, certain Smart TV’s and
laptops (via a browser) or download the movie to watch offline. Rented movies
have an expiration date, users get 30 days to watch the movie, purchased movies
do not have an expiration date.
Other African countries that now have access to Google Play Movies include Angola,
Botswana, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Mali, Malta, Mauritius, Namibia, Niger, Rwanda,
Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
