The Big Shoe, a Hollywood film featuring Kristen Stewart which was
due
to be filmed in Cape Town in October 2015, has cancelled shooting in the location
after
the South African Department of Arts and Culture failed to follow through on funding
commitments.

According to City Press, former Arts and Culture Minister Paul Mashatile had
committed to contributing an approved R32 million towards the film as part of an
initiative called the South African Film Fund. This was confirmed in a letter dated 3
March 2014 from Mashatile to the film’s producers. Months after the letter was sent,
Nathi Mthethwa took over Mashitile’s position. Producers were forced to cancel the
shoot after claiming they only received R4 million of the agreed amount and no
answer from the department regarding queries into the matter.

Anton Ernst, the local co-producer of The Big Shoe told City Press,
“They did not even take one email to answer me, and I sent a lot.’
