The 42nd International Emmy Awards took place in New York on 24 November 2014. South African production company, Diprente, made history at the awards when its series Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola (LNN) – co-created by Gola, Kagiso Lediga and Tamsin Andersson – was nominated in the Best Comedy category. This is the second time the series has been nominated for an award, having received its first nomination in 2013.

The International Emmy Awards were established by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to recognise excellence in television produced outside of the United States.

According BizNews.com, Kagiso Lediga, co-founder of Diprente and director of LNN commented, “We’re beyond excited to have been nominated, it’s a huge thumbs up for our industry, showing that South African talent is on par with what’s on offer in the rest of the world.’ He was speaking from New York, where he and the LNN team attended the awards.

LNN is now in its fourth year and features some of South Africa’s top comedians and writers. Other popular Diprente productions include the likes of Blitz Patrollie, innovative branded entertainment such as the soccer world cup focused Dave’s Big Break and insurance edutainment series Next of Next Week.
