The fourth Kunjanimation Animation Festival takes place from 26 to 30 November at
the Labia Theatre in Cape Town, featuring top animated feature films from around
the world curated by Animation SA. The festival also features workshops as part of
a partnership with Pop the Culture, a content hub and talent incubator which
showcases and promotes South African talent.

Kunjanimation is an initiative by the Institut Francais South Africa; the National Film
and Video Foundation; Wesgro and the Animation School. As part of an ongoing
relationship between the South African and French animation industries, a French
animation delegation will be in Cape Town as part of the Festival.

Film screenings include: Miniscule: valley of the lost ants, Rio
2096: a story of love and fury
, Le Roi et l’Oiseau (The King and the
Mockingbird)
, La Prophetie des Grenouilles (Raining Cats and Frogs)
and Mia et le Migou (Mia and the Migoo).

Festival director Dianne Makings says, “The Festival has not only provided access to
these films, but has successfully created a platform for the development of the art
and business of South African animation. This year we have taken that a step
further, in our partnership with Pop the Culture, who will be hosting ground-
breaking training workshops for the local industry.’

Workshops are to take place at the Animation School, Cape Town Campus, 42
Searle Street, Woodstock. Ticket prices for the workshops start at R175. A regular
full festival pass for Pop the Culture workshops and screenings is R1900 while
students pay R1000.
