Jerry Mofokeng, a South African actor who has featured in a number of films and
has a role in e.tv’s soapie Scandal!, has been appointed as artistic
director of the Performance Arts Centre of the Free State (PACOFS) in
Bloemfontein.

Mofokeng will be taking a break from acting work but, according to a statement
made on e.tv’s website, says, “I think it’s impossible to completely cut myself
out. It’s just that I won’t be able to take up major film engagements. But I’ll
continue to show my face here and there.’

PACOFS is at the helm of theatre activities in the Free State province, providing
an environment for artists to practice and perform their different skills and
talents.

Mofokeng says PACOFS provides him with a platform to experiment and
continues, “PACOFS is providing a platform for aspiring actors, writers, directors
and producers who want to make a mark in this industry. We don’t have the
pressure of time like those metro cities and so it means that we are an
incubator platform. And so we really want to focus on providing first stages, first
showcases and let people show us what they can do and be vulnerable in the
way that they do their art. The facility allows us to go from the beginning of
development to the stars.’
