Maker Studios, a technology driven media company and major content supplier for YouTube, has been acquired by the Walt Disney Company for $500m, with an additional incentive amount of $450m on the cards, should the company reach tough performance targets.

Maker Studios is considered by Disney as one of the top online video networks with 55,000 channels, 380 million subscribers and 5.5 billion views a month on YouTube.
Like DreamWorks Animation, Disney is venturing towards an online video business.

Robert Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Disney said: “Short-form online video is growing at an astonishing pace and with Maker Studios, Disney will now be at the centre of this dynamic industry with an unmatched combination of advanced technology and programming expertise and capabilities.’
